Mike Judge's 2006 comedy, "Idiocracy," will be screened Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m. in the Coastal Theater as part of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts Communication Movie Night. The event is free and open to the public.

The satirical science fiction comedy starring Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph tells the story of two average Americans who participate in a top-secret military hibernation experiment, waking 500 years later to a dystopian society. In the future, advertising, commercialism and cultural anti-intellectualism have overtaken society to the point that the two time-travelers are the smartest people alive.

Following the screening, CCU Department of Communication, Media and Culture faculty members Corinne Dalelio, Wes Fondren and Kyle Holody will lead a discussion on the ways media influences our culture.

"'Idiocracy' is about a future society overrun by commercialization and the effects of media consumption," Holody said. "We chose this movie to help discuss the topic of media effects, which everyone experiences on a day-to-day basis, even though these effects are difficult to notice."
