CCU Student Ensemble Acoustic Songbook to perform

The Coastal Carolina University student ensemble Acoustic Songbook will perform a concert of unplugged versions of popular songs on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts building. Admission is $7, and discounts are available.

David Bankston, professor of music, directs Acoustic Songbook, which showcases the talents of a small group of student musicians. The event program represents a wide variety of genres including folk, Americana, jazz, world music, contemporary music theater, musical film and the British Invasion. Songs include "In My Room" by Brian Wilson, "Jolene" by Ray LaMontagne, "New Year's Day" by Taylor Swift and "Hadn't Been for Love" by Chris Stapleton.

Bankston is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who has been creating music for much of his life and has performed extensively in opera and musical theater, singing leading roles with many American companies, including Houston Grand Opera, Washington Opera, the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and the New Orleans Opera. He has also produced CDs of original music, including "Galvez Town" (2002) and "Jazz Blues Gospel Shoes" (2007). Bankston earned his Bachelor of Music from the University of Louisiana and a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of South Carolina. Student performers are Will Ness on vocals, guitar and piano; J. Miller on vocals; Courtney Francis on vocals; Noah Pelty on vocals and guitar; Kaitlyn Harrison on vocals and shaker; Ariel Roebuck on vocals; Kayla O'Riley on vocals, guitar, piano and cajon; and Hannah Battley on vocals.

The Edwards Recital Hall is located in Room 152 in the Edwards College at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. on the Conway Campus. Parking is available in lots directly adjacent near the back of the building or in J lot near the Singleton building. For more information, visit coastal.edu/safety/parking.

General admission is $7. Senior citizens, OLLI members, CCU alumni, teens, and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff are $5. Tickets for children and CCU/HGTC students are $3.
