CCU students, faculty to share racial perspectives

January 17, 2018

A panel discussion titled "Race on Campus: What Are Our Experiences?" will be held on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 4:30 p.m. in the James J. Johnson Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University. This Tea & Ethics event, hosted by the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values, is free and open to the public.

This panel discussion features students, faculty and staff members reflecting on the role race plays in campus life. As the student population of Coastal Carolina University experiences rapid expansion, the campus becomes home to growing numbers of students from different regions of the United States as well as international students. Students bring a wide range of perspectives and experiences with them to campus, and this panel discussion offers a means for them, as well as faculty and staff, to share authentic perspectives with the audience.

"Conversations about race have become challenging on many college campuses," says Nils Rauhut, professor of philosophy and director of the Jackson Center. "While some are concerned about rising racism, others are worried that political correctness has made free speech impossible. This Tea & Ethics panel discussion among students, faculty and staff is an invitation to have open, respectful and multifaceted conversations about our experiences with race at Coastal Carolina University."

Tea & Ethics has been the flagship event series of the Jackson Center since 2004. The Jackson Center aims to cultivate ethical awareness in the community through programs and events fostering inclusive conversations on important contemporary ethical issues.

The Johnson Auditorium is located in Room 116 of the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration at 119 Chanticleer Drive E. on CCU's main campus. Parking is available in lot R outside the Brittain Building and adjacent to the Wall Building; for more information, visit coastal.edu/safety/parking.
