Squatriglia retiring from vice president's post
"Bob Squatriglia has been a devoted member of the Coastal Carolina administration for many years and has steadfastly kept the interests of students at the forefront of all his decisions," said Ingle. "It is my hope that Bob will continue to contribute to the university in the years ahead as we move forward with the strong legacy of student advocacy that he has developed in his more than 25 years with Coastal."
According to Ingle, a national search for a replacement will begin this fall and a representative committee of students, faculty and staff will be named in the coming weeks. Ingle anticipates that a new vice president for student affairs will be named by March 2003.
Squatriglia has served as dean of students and vice president of student affairs at Coastal since 1977. He has been instrumental in the development of student services and programs, including campus residence halls. Coastal's first residence halls were constructed in 1987. The university now has approximately 1,300 students living in on-campus housing.
Prior to joining Coastal, he was vice president for student affairs at State University of New York at Brockport and associate dean of students at State University of New York at Albany. He also has held positions at the University of South Carolina and the College of William and Mary.
Last spring, Squatriglia received the Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) honorary leadership society's Meritorious Service Award. He has served as Faculty Circle Secretary of Coastal's Circle of ODK since it was chartered in 1980 and was recently elected the first faculty director of the newly established Province VI of ODK, which includes 13 university and college circles in South Carolina.
Squatriglia, who served as an airborne infantry company commander in the U.S. Army, earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the College of William and Mary and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
