Dyer named vice president for university relations

Edgar Dyer has been named vice president for university relations at Coastal Carolina University, according to Coastal President Ronald R. Ingle.

In this newly created position, Dyer will oversee Coastal's Office of Marketing Communications, Office of Community Relations, Office of Alumni Affairs, Office of Media Services, Printing Services, and Photography Services. Dyer's new responsibilities will also include serving as the university's liaison with the S.C. General Assembly and the Horry County Higher Education Commission. He will continue to serve as university counsel.

Since January 2001 Dyer has been director of the bachelor's degree program in Interdisciplinary Studies. He has also served as executive director of the Coastal Educational Foundation, Inc., since May 2001. Dyer's background at Coastal's also includes serving as interim director of athletics from August 2000 to January 2001 and interim dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts during the 1999-2000 academic year.

A professor of politics, Dyer has been a member of the Coastal faculty since 1976. He was the first recipient of the Horry Telephone Cooperative Distinguished Teacher-Scholar Lecturer Award, which recognizes Coastal faculty members who distinguish themselves as teachers, scholars and communicators. He has also received the Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award.

Dyer earned a bachelor's degree from Guilford College and has a master's degree and juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
