Every summer to prepare for the fall semester, University Housing prepares its staff to welcome the 4,600 students who live in campus housing.
It's a huge undertaking to prepare for so many students, and many different events and trainings are planned throughout the summer. Resident advisers (RAs) are undergraduate or graduate students who serve as live-in peer leaders and role models. Each RA is assigned to a wing, floor or building and the residents who live there. They answer questions about the campus and residential facilities; help residents with community, personal and academic concerns; mediate group conflicts that may arise; coordinate programs and activities; and enforce University policies.
RAs participate in many hours of specialized training and work hard to create strong communities that enhance the on-campus living experience. Part of those trainings are an annual RA cookout with President David A. DeCenzo and an information fair in the HTC Center so RAs can build and foster relationships, learn more about the departments across campus, and engage with their peers.
