MUSIC
The CCU Department of Music presents "Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990): A 2018 Centennial Celebration" at 7:30 p.m. in Edwards Recital Hall. Faculty from the Department of Music at the University of South Carolina join Jeffrey Jones, baritone and associate professor in CCU's Department of Music, in celebrating the centennial of Bernstein's birth. The repertoire includes piano arrangements from Bernstein's "Symphony No. 2" and vocal work from his arias and bacarolles.

FILM
The Department of English presents a screening of "Thelma and Louise" (1991) at 5 p.m. in the Coastal Theater, Lib Jackson Student Union (Room A-110). Following the screening, CCU Department of English faculty Christian Smith, assistant professor, and Anna Oldfield, associate professor, lead a discussion on the "road movie" and "buddy movie" genres in American film history.

CalypSamba, CCU's world percussion ensemble, presents an evening of cross-cultural fusion music at 7:30 p.m. in the Wheelwright Auditorium. The event features guest percussionist Scott Kettner and is directed by Jesse Willis, associate professor in the Department of Music. Kettner and the ensemble will blend a variety of musical styles that draw on influences from New Orleans, the Caribbean and Brazil.

The Department of Theatre presents Thornton Wilder's 1938 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "Our Town" at 7:30 p.m. in Edwards Theatre. "Our Town" tells the story of a small town that represents every town the world over. Narrated by the "Stage Manager," the play follows the Gibbs and the Webb families, resident of Grover's Corners, N.H., through 12 years of life changes.

LECTURE
Russell S. Sobel, professor of economics and entrepreneurship at the Citadel's Baker School of Business, presents a lecture titled "Entrepreneurship, Economic Freedom, and Prosperity" at 4:30 p.m. in the Johnson Auditorium, Wall 116. Sobel has authored or co-authored more than 200 books and articles, including a best-selling college textbook called "Principles of Economics." The event is part of CCU's Politics and Economics Lecture Series.

The 14th annual "Salute to American Veterans" honors veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces at 7:30 p.m. in the Wheelwright Auditorium. This event features patriotic music, a color guard, recognition of veterans from all service branches and a premiere of the documentary "Death Drop: the 82nd Airborne and D-day." This film chronicles the remarkable story of the U.S Army's 82nd Airborne Division on D-Day June 6, 1944, and airborne operations related to the allied invasion of Normandy during World War II.

LECTURE
In celebration of science and space exploration, CCU marks the birthday of the late American astronomer, cosmologist, author and public intellectual Carl Sagan with the second annual Carl Sagan Day lecture with guest scholar Janna Levin at 7 p.m. in the Wheelwright Auditorium. Levin earned her Ph.D. in theoretical physics from MIT in 1993 and is a leading expert in black holes, gravitational waves and the cosmology of extra dimensions.

The Department of Theatre presents a special performance of Thornton Wilder's 1938 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "Our Town" at 7:30 p.m. at the Horry County Museum in Conway. This performance will be free, with CCU's Office of Philanthropy collecting voluntary donations for Conway Cares, a 501(c) nonprofit organization, to provide hurricane relief services to residents of Horry County.
