Watch: Researching the Winyah Bay

May 9, 2019
Mimi Oliver, a freshman marine science major, is helping Professor Till Hanebuth with research in Winyah Bay.

Researchers from Coastal Carolina University are on a quest to determine historic sea level on Winyah Bay at Georgetown. Several methods are being used to determine sea level in the port city over the past 100 years and going back even farther than that. By calculating where sea level was in the past, researchers can figure out the rate at which it is rising.

May 5-11 is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. Throughout the next several days, we will spotlight efforts taken by our University to lead the charge for change in South Carolina so that all residents can be better informed and better prepared when the next storm strikes.
