CCU's Campus Salvage sale promotes sustainability and raises scholarship funds
Campus Salvage will be held at 370 Allied Drive in Conway, which is the Portable On Demand Storage (PODS) company parking lot in the Atlantic Center across U.S. 501 from CCU's main campus. Those who wish to begin shopping from at 7 a.m. will be charged a $5 early bird entry fee. There is no admission for those who shop between 8-10 a.m.
The items on sale are collected from CCU students moving out of the residence halls for the summer, who donate unwanted items by putting them in empty PODS that are placed throughout the campus during the move-out periods.
"Our goal is divert as many items as possible from the landfills and to teach the importance of reuse to the CCU community and beyond," said Jeremy Monday, Coastal's sustainability coordinator.
The program began in 2008 to reduce waste and increase awareness for sustainability. "The response was overwhelming," said Monday.
Last year's sale raised more than $3,500 to pay for the program and to fund CCU's sustainability scholarships.
In past years, the sale included microwaves, mini-fridges ($35), TVs, small appliances ($5), furniture, shelving and more. Prices for items will be posted at the sale - most are typically $1 - and all sales are final. It is a cash-only sale, and items are sold as is.
Not only does Campus Salvage teach the community about sustainability, but it also fills the wish lists of local charitable organizations throughout the area.

- Waccamaw Youth Center
- Fostering Hope
- North Strand Housing Shelter
- Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach
- Grand Strand Humane Society
- Ark Animal Shelter
- Horry County Animal Care Center
- Sea Haven
- Community Kitchen
- Shepherd's Table
- Street Reach
