The Grant Center for Real Estate and Economics at Coastal Carolina University has announced the following businesses as the 2019 winners of its annual Real Estate Awards:

Residential: Living Dunes at the Grande Dunes

Office, Medical and Industrial: Health Plaza South (Conway Medical Center)

Government, Public and Nonprofit: The Inlet to Intracoastal Multipurpose Path (the i2i) in Murrels Inlet, S.C.

Resort, Tourism and Retail Development: Teal Towne

Restaurants: Topgolf

S.C. Real Estate Award: The BullStreet District - Columbia, S.C.

Leon Shamah is a graduate of CCU and the developer of Teal Towne Centre, a complex nearing completion on S.C. 544 a half-mile from the main campus.

"We look forward to serving the community to include the growing student body of Coastal Carolina University," he said.

Made possible through a gift from the Tony and Carrie Grant Fund, the awards celebrate real estate excellence in five sectors in the Grand Strand and one property within the state of South Carolina.

"It's an honor to be recognized by our community with such a prestigious award," said Dan Murphy, Living Beach general manager. "Our vision extends deeper than just developing another neighborhood with Living Dunes. We are committed to creating sustainable communities and assisting in the growth of Myrtle Beach."

CMC, the first hospital in Horry County, recognized a need for more health care options in the Socastee area due to explosive growth, said Chief Financial Officer Brian Argo. From that need came Health Plaza South.

"This facility is a testament to our commitment to be good stewards of our environment," said Argo. "The building was designed with energy-efficient materials, with new technology LED lighting, and air conditioning systems to conserve energy. We are proud of this building and so glad it is being recognized with this award."

An awards ceremony will be presented by the Grant Center for Real Estate and Economics on Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, from 5-6 p.m. in the Johnson Auditorium, Room 116 in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration building. A reception with drinks and light hors d'oeuvres will follow in the Wall Building boardroom, located in Room 222.

In addition to the awards, the Grant Center will hold the inaugural South Carolina Real Estate Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the event, which seeks to recognize and honor the legacy of top commercial real estate professionals with outstanding contributions to the South Carolina real estate community. The inaugural induction will be in memory of the late George Dodson Taylor and the late Wilson Springs.

Through the 40 years he spent in real estate, Taylor was involved in the development of many communities along the South Carolina coast, including some in Hilton Head, Georgetown, Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet, and Myrtle Beach.

"Each of the developments targeted different markets, and George effectively identified the markets and products that would appeal to them," said Bill Preacher, past president of Sea Pines company and Palmetto Bluff. "His real estate legacy is that he developed products that allowed purchasers to access the attractive lifestyle on or adjacent to the coast for a wide range of prices."

Wilson was a Myrtle Beach native whose father founded H.B. Springs Company in 1928, which helped develop and build Pine Lakes Country Club and Ocean Forest Hotel. Wilson managed the company for more than 50 years alongside his brother Albert. He passed away on April 16, 2019.
