During the four-week Maymester, a group of Coastal Carolina University students advanced an archaeology dig near Waties Island, within the Anne Tilghman Boyce Coastal Reserve. It’s a site that Professor Carolyn Dillian, Ph.D., has shared with students over the years. The dig was experiential learning at its best, and the class captivated the students who were involved. As a special bonus, Cheryl Cail, vice chief of the Waccamaw Indian People, visited the site and even participated in the excavation. The Waccamaw People's ancestors once used the site.
