February 25, 2003

"On Being American: A Community Dialogue," a series of public forums exploring what it means to be an American, will present its final session, titled "The American Experience in Art and Music," on Wednesday, March 5 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Waccamaw Public Library in Pawleys Island. The event is free and open to the public.

-"The American Experience in Art and Music" is an interactive multimedia presentation which will explore how the ongoing struggle for freedom and democracy has shaped America's unique and vibrant heritage in music and the arts.

The discussion will be led by David Bankston, a composer and musician who is an associate professor of music at Coastal, and Jo-Ann Morgan, a visual artist and assistant professor of art at Coastal.

The On Being American series, sponsored by the Board of Visitors of the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, is designed to involve area citizens and Coastal faculty in discussions about the basic tenets of American life and culture.
