Coastal art students and mentors exhibit work

October 17, 2003

Sixteen sculptural works by Coastal Carolina University art students and their instructors are on display in "Mentoring Artists Exhibition," a new show in the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery at Coastal.

Curated by Gallery Director Will Hipps, the exhibition will feature companion works in varied media by eight emerging artists and their faculty mentors.

"Empathetic, intellectual and intuitive bonding takes place through two-way creative interactions between art mentors and art students," said Hipps in the exhibition statement. "The students benefit from the skill, experience and expertise of professional artists and teachers. In turn, the students may spur new questions stimulating the mentors' artistic or pedagogical visions."

The reception for the show will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, and it's free and open to the public.

The gallery is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It's located in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, room 129.

For more information, call 234-3466 or visit the Web site at visualart.coastal.edu and click on Gallery. The exhibit continues until Nov. 7.
