African-American Poetry & Jazz concert features Galen

An evening of African-American Poetry & Jazz will be presented at Coastal Carolina University on Tuesday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m. in Wall Auditorium. Jazz flutist Galen will perform a part of the event, which is free and open to the public.

Known simply as Galen, the master flutist has played throughout the U.S. and abroad for more than 30 years. Based in Florida, he is from Montclair, N.J., and is widely known and respected as an arranger, composer, director and educator who has performed and recorded with some of the world’s greatest recording artists. He has shared the stage with world-renowned artists such as Billy Taylor, Melba Moore, Sun Ra, John Patton and many others.

Galen is a former student of the Berklee College of Music in Boston and a graduate of Rutgers University. He holds a master of fine arts degree. Coastal students, faculty, staff and friends will present their own poetry, as well as that of other African-American poets. The poetry reading and jazz concert, in celebration of Women’s History Month and Coastal’s African-American Celebration, is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Services.
