Southern Asphalt makes gift to Coastal Carolina football

September 17, 2004

In recognition of a generous gift made by Southern Asphalt to Coastal Carolina University’s football program, the university has named the Brooks Stadium entrance area the Southern Asphalt Plaza.

The amount of the donation was not disclosed, but university officials said it was “one of the larger gifts” made during Coastal’s 50th Anniversary Campaign to raise $10 million.

“This community has been good to us, so we wanted to give back to the community and show our support for this great football program at Coastal,” said co-owners Donald Godwin and Sam Adams.

Southern Asphalt has been in business for 10 years. The company’s recent paving projects include the widening of S.C. 544, the Bob Grissom Parkway in Myrtle Beach and Mill Pond Road in Conway.
