Coastals 50th Anniversary campaign reaches $10 million mark

October 1, 2004

Although the campaign has reached its $10 million goal, Coastal Carolina University officials are sticking to their original timetable for the 50th Anniversary Initiatives, which entered its public phase last week. The campaign, the largest fund-raising effort in the universitys history, will continue through June 30, 2005.

All 16 members of Coastals board of trustees have contributed to the campaign, according to board chairman Fred DuBard, who commended them for their support.

Funds raised through the 50th Anniversary Initiatives campaign will support the academic, physical and athletic needs of the university, including scholarships, endowed professorships and programmatic endeavors.

The three initiatives include:

The Science Initiative involves funding for construction of the Burroughs & Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies on Waites Island and renovation of the existing R. Cathcart Smith Science Center.

The Academic Initiatives call for funding for academic and public engagement programs in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration, the Spadoni College of Education, and the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

The Athletic Initiative seeks funding for completing Brooks Stadium and the George F. Buddy Sasser Athletic Hall of Fame, and extensive renovations of the baseball complex.
