Help CCU to ‘Pack the Pantry’
“Pack the Pantry: Parking Amnesty Week” is a new program at Coastal Carolina University that allows students, staff, faculty and visitors to “pay” select parking citations by contributing five non perishable food items to the CINO Pantry.
Students, faculty and staff members who receive parking citations issued from Monday, Aug. 20, through Sunday, Aug. 26, will be eligible for this program with the exception of those who park:
- In RESERVED space/lot
- At fire hydrant/fire zone
- In or blocking DISABLED PERSON’s space/curb out
These citations must be paid in accordance with CCU’s Parking Rules and Regulations.
“Pack the Pantry” will be collecting nonperishable food items in the rotunda of the Lib Jackson Student Union from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, through Friday, Aug. 24, and again the following week during the same hours Monday, Aug. 27, through Friday, Aug. 31.
After the collection period is complete, parking citations issued during the “Pack the Pantry” timeframe will no longer eligible to be paid through this special program. Many of the nonperishable food items the CINO Pantry needs can be purchased at the Main Street POD Market in the Lib Jackson Student Union.
The CINO Pantry was created by a University 110 class in 2012 in an effort to help reduce hunger and improve nutrition on campus.
The need for the pantry was determined based on the percentage of CCU students who receive financial aid, as well as the number of juniors and seniors who live off campus and find it difficult to pay rent each month and still have enough money to buy food or a meal plan.
Food insecurity among college students is prevalent throughout the country, and the CINO Pantry was established to combat the problem and help students succeed.
The CINO Pantry is totally free and open to all students, faculty and staff. The pantry is located in Lib Jackson Student Union B-214.
The following nonperishable items are being accepted for the CINO Pantry:
- Pasta and pasta sauces
- Cereal bars
- Shelf-stable milk
- Canned tuna
- Canned meat
- Granola and protein bars
- Microwave meals
- Canned fruit
All are encouraged to contribute to the pantry, whether or not you get a parking ticket!
