Help CCU to ‘Pack the Pantry’
“Pack the Pantry: Parking Amnesty Week” is an annual program at Coastal Carolina University that allows students, staff, faculty and visitors to pay select parking citations by contributing five non perishable food items to the CINO Pantry.
Students, faculty, and staff members who receive parking citations issued from Wednesday, Aug. 23 through Tuesday, Aug. 29 will be eligible for this program with the exception of those who park in or block:
- Reserved spaces/lots;
- Fire hydrants/fire zones; or
- Accessible parking spaces and curb cuts.
These citations must be paid in accordance with CCU’s Parking Rules and Regulations.
Pack the Pantry staff volunteers will be collecting nonperishable food items in the Lib Jackson Student Union Rotunda from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23 through Wednesday, Aug. 30. There will be no collection on Saturday, Aug. 26 and Sunday, Aug. 27. Collection on Friday, Aug. 25 will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
After the collection period is complete, parking citations issued during the “Pack the Pantry” timeframe will no longer be eligible to be paid through this special program. Many of the nonperishable food items the CINO Pantry needs can be purchased at the Main Street P.O.D. Market in the Lib Jackson Student Union.
The CINO Pantry was created by a University 110 class in 2012 in an effort to help reduce hunger and improve nutrition on campus.
The need for the pantry was determined based on the percentage of CCU students who receive financial aid, as well as the number of juniors and seniors who live off campus and find it difficult to pay rent each month and still have enough money to buy food or a meal plan.
Food insecurity among college students is prevalent throughout the country, and the CINO Pantry was established to combat the problem and help students succeed.
The CINO Pantry is totally free and open to all students, faculty and staff. The pantry is located in Lib Jackson Student Union A-215.
The following nonperishable items are being accepted for the CINO Pantry:
- Pasta
- Pasta sauce
- Cereal
- Cereal bars
- Shelf-stable milk
- Rice
- Canned meat (chicken, tuna, salmon, etc.)
- Canned vegetables
- Broth
- Canned soup
- Granola and protein bars
- Other pre-packaged, prepared snacks
- Microwave meals
- Canned fruit
