‌Triota is a national honor society dedicated to recognizing and encouraging academic excellence in Women's and Gender Studies (WGS). Triota strives to maintain three feminist values central to Women’s and Gender Studies: egalitarianism, inclusiveness, and the celebration of women’s experiences. WGS majors and minors who fit the following criteria are invited to become Triota members:

  • Completion of six WGST credit hours (including WGST 103)
  • To remain in good standing, members must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Members must pay a one-time due of $10 and will receive a Triota pin and certificate at the annual induction ceremony. Graduating members will also receive a commencement honors cord.

The Alpha Chapter of Triota was established at Metropolitan State University of Denver in the fall of 1992 to recognize the academic achievements of students in Women’s Studies. The Greek letter, iota, was selected for the name to represent the three goddesses Inana, Ishtar and Isis. Since 1992, Triota has held annual induction ceremonies, sponsored community service projects and co-sponsored events with the Institute for Women’s Studies and Services across 84 universities. The chapter at Coastal Carolina University is Delta Omicron.
