When we asked D’Quondre’ “Dre” Gadson if he had any special talents, he responded with “I can rap.” It was the #CCUfamily understatement of the semester.

Not only can D’Quondre’ rap, he can rap well. His skills landed him a starring role in last year’s critically acclaimed Coastal Carolina holiday video. Over 300,000 views later, you can say that D’Quondre’ holds celebrity status here at CCU.

But the story of D’Quondre’ goes way beyond his rapping pursuits. A junior from Santee, S.C., he chose Coastal based on the way he was treated the first time he visited campus. Made to feel like CCU was meant for him, he became a Chanticleer to study management, a major he chose because business runs in his family’s blood.

Since enrolling, D’Quondre’ has found himself involved with several organizations, many of them centered on leadership. He has also found employment, serving as a student assistant in both the athletic department and Student Computing Services. D’Quondre’ hopes his academic path, extracurricular activities and work experience will lead him to a career in human resources.

Living out a well-rounded college experience that most would envy, D’Quondre’ graciously shows his appreciation to Coastal through his actions. After all, you don’t lend your face and talents to a major marketing production nor work two on-campus jobs if you don’t hold your University in high esteem.

“Coastal opened my eyes to different viewpoints, people and perspectives of life, basically making me a stronger person,” D’Quondre’ says.

Keeping doing your thing, D’Quondre’, we really enjoy having you at Coastal.
