As we approach Coastal Carolina University’s Relay for Life event this Saturday, April 7, it reminds Ed Perrine of a special time. His mind races back to the 2017 event when his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, raised a significant amount of money to aid in the fight against cancer. Remarking that cancer “hits close to home” for his family, the effort put forth by Ed’s fraternity brothers meant a lot to him. He hopes for a fundraising repeat this weekend.

Although cancer has unfortunately impacted Ed’s family, there is something much more positive that also “hits close to home” for Ed.

“I have family in law enforcement and I have seen firsthand what it is like to help the community,” Ed explains. “I hope to someday give back to whatever community I am living in.”

It makes perfect sense then that this sophomore from Bricktown, N.J., is studying intelligence and national security studies. Ed hopes to use this popular major at CCU to help him enter the law enforcement intelligence field so he can protect and serve just like his own family members.

Describing himself as personable and “really easy to talk to,” Ed gives credit to CCU for helping him open up even more. He is a proud Chant surrounded by numerous friends he gained when he joined his fraternity. Needless to say, life is good for Ed as he has plenty of time left to enjoy #TEALnation.

Ed is a sophomore.
Ed enjoys going to the gym.
