Elizabeth's Video

Elizabeth Slusher likens herself to a hurricane.

“I am a continuous force moving towards my goals and aspirations,” Elizabeth explains about her creative, yet accurate, comparison.

A hospitality and resort tourism management senior, Elizabeth has worked overtime to reach her main goal of becoming an event planner for a major hotel corporation since the day she stepped foot on campus. When it comes to academics, she is an all-star. Not only is she succeeding in the classroom but she is the president of Eta Sigma Delta, the hospitality honors fraternity. On top of that, she also is part of the Student Executive Leaders group and the Honors College.

But if all that wasn’t enough, she has added a minor to her course load as well to gain a different perspective. Studying new media and digital culture, Elizabeth says she is able to relate more to the guest, remarking that she is able to “see the market from their eyes.”

It just isn’t in the classroom where Elizabeth is gaining a different perspective. She already has racked up countless hours in her field, working diverse jobs within the hospitality industry. Currently she has two different gigs. One day she is a marketing assistant for a major property management corporation in the area; the next day she is working as a banquet server for another prominent entity.

Elizabeth is driven. Whether on campus or in the community, she is learning her trade inside and out. Thanking Coastal for providing her with opportunities, a community-rich atmosphere and plenty of friends, she has had a great run as Chanticleer. We can’t wait to see how her career will pan out.

Elizabeth is a senior.‌‌
Elizabeth's favorite professor is Jen Boyle, Ph.D.

Q&A with Elizabeth

How did you hear about Coastal?: Through my high school and my own research about schools with hospitality majors.

Why did you come to Coastal?: I came to Coastal because it is the perfect environment to learn about resort and tourism management. What better way to immerse yourself in your major than to live in a community with 200+ resorts and hotels?!

Favorite professor: Jen Boyle, Ph.D.

Favorite class: English 231, Film New Media and Culture with Jen Boyle

Favorite aspect of Coastal?: I love that Coastal is a “big/small school.” I am able to know my professors and advisors on a personal level, but at the same time I am always meeting new people. It allows you to feel at home while still challenging you to try new things and meet new people.

Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: I think my favorite part of living in Myrtle Beach is there really isn’t anything you can’t find here. There is a little something here for everyone, which makes everyone’s experience with the Grand Strand so personal and unique.

Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?: I am a founding member of the CCU chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority. I am also the president of Eta Sigma Delta, which is the hospitality honors fraternity.  I am a part of the Student Executive Leaders Organization and the Honors College as well.

Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus)?: I work for Brittain Resorts and Hotels as a marketing assistant and I work at The Hilton Myrtle Beach as a banquet server.

Plans after graduation?:  As of right now, I will be staying in Myrtle Beach, but I am not ruling anything out. There are always great opportunities waiting for you and you never know when they will knock on your door!

What are your hobbies?: Right now I really enjoy yoga. I also like watching TV (“Game of Thrones” and “Big Bang Theory”) and playing with my two dogs.

Do you have any hidden talents?: I can dance! I danced competitively from the age of 3 up until this year. I am also a decent painter; I enjoy the artistic process.
