What to Bring

Contact your roommate(s) or suitemates(s) prior to arrival to coordinate items for common area spaces. This is not an exhaustive list of items. If you are unsure if something is permitted or not, contact us directly before purchasing.

Recommended Items
  • Alarm clock/clock radio
  • Bed linens, pillows, and blanket (beds are extra-long, twin-size - 36”x 80”; University Place single bedrooms are full size)
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Clothes hangers (hanging space is limited)
  • Hygiene products and grooming appliances (soap, deodorant, hair dryer, curling iron, and etc.)
  • Kitchen utensils and supplies (the Gardens, the Woods and University Place)
  • Laptop or tablet with Ethernet cord for Internet access
  • Laundry products
  • Paper products - paper towels, bathroom and facial tissues
  • Shower curtain, towels and toiletries (shower curtains provided in Chanticleer, DeCenzo, Singleton-Young, and Tradition)
  • Small vacuum cleaner
  • Small lamp(s)
  • Throw rugs (University Place and Ingle Hall has carpeting)
  • U.L. (Underwright Laboratories) approved power-strip
  • Wastebasket with plastic bags

  • Appliances with open heating elements ( e.g., electric woks, deep fryers, hot plates, toasters/toaster ovens, etc.)
  • Candles, incense and candle/wax warmers
  • Chest freezers
  • Decorative alcohol containers
  • Deep fryers
  • Electric blankets/electric mattress pads
  • Electric heaters
  • Electric woks
  • Grills (charcoal and gas)
  • Halogen lights/lamps
  • Neon lights, black lights or lava lamps
  • Pets (other than fish in a tank of 10 gallons or less)
  • Portable dish/clothes washer
  • Toasters/toaster ovens (except in University Place, the Woods and the Gardens)
  • Two-wheeled electric-powered scooters (e.g. Hoverboards)
  • Upholstered furniture (e.g., couches, futons, chairs, bean bags, etc.)
  • Weapons, firearms or replicas
  • Wireless routers and Internet switches

  • Bike with front and rear lights, helmet and lock
  • Fan
  • First-aid kit
  • Flashlight
  • Individual microwave (less than 1,000 watts; microwaves provided in University Place)
  • Iron (with automatic shut-off and must be used with ironing board
  • Memo board
  • Pail/mop/broom
  • Sewing kit
  • Single-serve coffee maker (e.g. Keurig)
  • Small refrigerator (4.6-cubic-foot limit and approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).; full-size refrigerators are provided for residents in the Gardens, the Woods and University Place)
  • Television with streaming capabilities
  • Umbrella
  • Permitted in the Gardens, the Woods and University Place only - coffee makers (with automatic shut-off), electric grills, rice cookers, sandwich makers, tea boiler/kettles, and toasters/toaster ovens
