What to Bring

Contact your roommate(s) or suitemates(s) prior to arrival to coordinate items for common area spaces.

Recommended Items
  • Alarm clock/clock radio
  • Bed linens, pillows, and blanket (beds are extra-long, twin-size - 36”x 80”; University Place single bedrooms are full size)
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Clothes hangers (hanging space is limited)
  • Hygiene products and grooming appliances (soap, deodorant, hair dryer, curling iron, and etc.)
  • Kitchen utensils and supplies (The Gardens, The Woods and University Place)
  • Laptop or tablet with Ethernet cord for Internet access
  • Laundry products
  • Paper products - paper towels, bathroom and facial tissues
  • Shower curtain, towels and toiletries (shower curtains provided in Chanticleer, CINO, Teal and Tradition)
  • Small vacuum cleaner
  • Small lamp(s)
  • Throw rugs (University Place and Ingle Hall has carpeting)
  • U.L. (Underwright Laboratories) approved power-strip
  • Wastebasket with plastic bags
Items Not to Bring
  • Appliances with open heating elements ( e.g., electric woks, deep fryers, hot plates, toasters/toaster ovens, etc.)
  • Bed risers, cinderblocks, lofts
  • Candles, incense and candle warmers
  • Combustible fuels - gasoline, kerosene, and etc.
  • Decorative alcohol containers
  • Grills (charcoal and gas)
  • Pets (other than fish in a tank of 10 gallons or less)
  • Space heaters, personal air conditioners or halogen lights/lamps
  • Two-wheeled electric-powered scooters (e.g. Hoverboards)
  • Upholstered furniture (e.g., couches, futons, chairs, bean bags, etc.)
  • Weapons, firearms or replicas
  • Wireless routers and Internet switches

  • Bike with front and rear lights, helmet and lock
  • Fan
  • First-aid kit
  • Flashlight
  • Individual microwave (less than 1,000 watts; microwaves provided in University Place)
  • Iron (with automatic shut-off) and ironing board
  • Memo board
  • Pail/mop/broom
  • Sewing kit
  • Single-serve coffee maker (e.g. Keurig)
  • Small refrigerator (4.6-cubic-foot limit and approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).; full-size refrigerators are provided for residents in The Gardens, The Woods and University Place)
  • Television with coaxial cable
  • Umbrella
  • Permitted in The Gardens, The Woods and University Place only - coffee makers (with automatic shut-off), electric grills, rice cookers, sandwich makers, tea boiler/kettles, and toasters/toaster ovens
