Chamber Ensembles

Woodwind Ensemble

Director: Eric Schultz

The Coastal Woodwind Ensemble is a voluntary organization dedicated to the cultural and musical enrichment of the Grand Strand and its surrounding communities. Its members come from many majors, fostering their love of music.

The Coastal Woodwind Ensemble includes flute, clarinet, oboe, and bassoon. A variety of musical styles, ranging from Baroque to Contemporary, are included in the ensemble’s repertoire. The musical selections from this extensive repertoire are tailored specifically to each function or concert at which this ensemble performs. Requests for special performances/repertoire can also be arranged, with adequate advance notice. Performances by smaller ensembles (trios, quartets, for example) are held throughout the school year.

Saxophone Ensemble

Director: Dan O'Reilly

The saxophone program at Coastal Carolina University offers numerous opportunities for students to explore specific areas of interest. The CCU Saxophone Ensemble is open to the entire university population regardless of major. This ensemble ranges in size from three to fifteen players and performs both transcriptions and original works in classical, jazz, and popular music genres. The saxophone ensemble literature includes a vast array of master works and is the saxophonist’s definitive chamber music experience.

String Ensemble

Director: Abigail Albaugh Martinez

This ensemble offers string players (music and non-music majors) an opportunity to study and perform in a chamber music setting.  Repertoire will include chamber works of Boccherini, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Faure, Brahms, Schubert and many others. This ensemble will focus on honing ensemble and performance skills while learning masterworks of the chamber music repertoire.

Brass Ensemble

Director: Marissa Terranova

This chamber ensemble is open to any student, music major or non-major, who plays a brass instrument: trumpet, French Horn, trombone, baritone/euphonium, or tuba. Students study, rehearse, and perform chamber music in all styles ranging from jazz to classical. This ensemble is also the designated ensemble for University-wide commencement ceremonies.
