Chamber Ensembles

Flute Choir

Director: Amy H. Tully

The Coastal Flute Choir is a voluntary organization dedicated to the cultural and musical enrichment of the Grand Strand and its surrounding communities. Its members come from many majors, fostering their love of music.

A flute choir is a musical ensemble composed entirely of flutes. The Coastal Carolina Flute Choir includes five members of the flute family (piccolo, Eb flute, C flute, alto flute, and bass flute). A variety of musical styles, ranging from Baroque to Contemporary, are included in the ensemble’s repertoire. The musical selections from this extensive repertoire are tailored specifically to each function or concert at which this ensemble performs. Requests for special performances/repertoire can also be arranged, with adequate advance notice. Performances by smaller ensembles (trios, quartets, for example) are held throughout the school year.

Saxophone Ensemble

Director: Dan O'Reilly

The saxophone program at Coastal Carolina University offers numerous opportunities for students to explore specific areas of interest. The CCU Saxophone Ensemble is open to the entire university population regardless of major. This ensemble ranges in size from three to fifteen players and performs both transcriptions and original works in classical, jazz and popular music genres. The saxophone ensemble literature includes a vast array of master works and is the saxophonist’s definitive chamber music experience.

Guitar Ensemble

Director: Dan Hull

Ensemble performance is essential to a musician’s development.  The Coastal Carolina University Guitar Ensemble provides guitarists the opportunity to participate in trios, quartets and a guitar orchestra.  Students get experience performing a variety of styles ranging from music from the Renaissance period to modern and contemporary music.  Recent performances have included traditional folk song arrangements, Bach, Beethoven, the Beatles and Michael Jackson.  The CCU Guitar Ensemble performs several times a year both on and off campus.  This ensemble is open to all guitar players by audition.  The ability to read standard music notation is required.

String Ensemble

Director: Stevie Martinez

This ensemble offers string players (music and non-music majors) an opportunity to study and perform in a chamber music setting.  Repertoire will include chamber works of Boccherini, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Faure, Brahms, Schubert and many others. This ensemble will focus on honing ensemble and performance skills while learning masterworks of the chamber music repertoire.
