CCU to celebrate Wellness Week Feb. 21-25

February 14, 2022

Coastal Carolina University is hosting its annual Wellness Week from Feb. 21-25, with daily events that encourage the University’s students, faculty, and staff to live healthy lifestyles. Wellness Week is sponsored by the University’s LiveWell Office and the CCU Wellness Coalition.

A highlight of the week is Wellness-Palooza, a day focused on promoting the nine dimensions of wellness – physical, emotional, social, financial, occupational, cultural, spiritual, intellectual, and environmental. The event, featuring booths representing each dimension, will be held in the HTC Center concourse on Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes various activities, T-shirt giveaways, and free healthy snacks.

“Seven teams of certified therapy dogs and their owners will be present at this year’s Wellness-Palooza, which is something students have been asking for a lot lately,” said Chris Donevant-Haines, associate director for the LiveWell Office. “Some of the dogs attending will be Shetland sheepdogs, a schnauzer, a Scottish terrier, and an Australian Doodle.”

The week’s other activities include physical activity and group exercise classes in the HTC Center studios, from Barre on Monday to Strength and Stretch on Friday. The classes have limited capacity, and preregistration is required. LiveWell Peer Educators will host a sexual health info table in the Lib Jackson Student Union rotunda on Monday, Feb. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members of the CCU Spiritual Life Council will lead a prayer walk on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 9 a.m., beginning at the Graham Bell Tower. CCUFoodCrew and Sustain Coastal will celebrate National Skip the Straw Day in the CINO Grille lobby on Friday, Feb. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donevant-Haines says members of the campus community will receive a free reusable keychain straw, and are encouraged to do their part to help keep the planet free from plastic pollution.
