Cooksey has been an active volunteer throughout his academic career at Coastal Carolina University, working with exceptional and autistic children. He is planning to take a gap year after graduating from CCU to explore graduate school options and professional opportunities in his areas of interest, including social work, advocacy, and non-governmental organizations.

Brett Cooksey is a political science and sociology double major from Conway, South Carolina. He served as vice president of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, and as media chair for the University chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children. Cooksey has been an active volunteer throughout his academic career at Coastal Carolina University, working with exceptional and autistic children.
