Knutson presented original research papers at both the 2015 and 2016 Phi Alpha Theta Carolinas Regional conferences, and in 2015, he won best paper in his panel.

Joshua Knutson is from Andrews, South Carolina, and attended Horry Georgetown Technical College before transferring to Coastal Carolina University. He is a recipient of the James Branham Endowed Award in History from CCU, which honors the history graduate with the highest academic standing. He is a member of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, and Phi Theta Kappa, the two-year college honor society. He presented original research papers at both the 2015 and 2016 Phi Alpha Theta Carolinas Regional conferences, and in 2015, he won best paper in his panel. Knutson wrote his senior thesis on the German Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. After graduating from CCU, he will begin the Master of Divinity degree program at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina, and has received a full-tuition scholarship from the institution. Knutson and his wife have one daughter.
