Yianni Laskaris, originally from Belmont, Massachusetts, earned his Bachelor of Science in environmental science from Northeastern University in 2010. After graduating magna cum laude, he worked as a biological technician for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, monitoring endangered seabirds on Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge for two seasons. He later worked for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, studying wintering ecology of gulls and gull effects on water quality in Massachusetts reservoirs. He entered the Coastal Carolina University marine and wetland studies program in 2014 with funding from a South Carolina Department of Natural Resources State Wildlife grant. At CCU, Laskaris conducted research on the demographics and nesting behavior of seaside sparrows in South Carolina, obtaining additional funding from the M.K. Pentecost Ecology Fund. He has presented the results of his research at the annual meeting of the South Carolina chapter of The Wildlife Society and at the annual meeting of the Association of Southeastern Biologists, and he has prepared a manuscript for submission to a regional or national ornithological journal.
