David Miller has been at Coastal in various roles since 2014, having moved to South Carolina from St. Louis, MO. Before accepting a role at CCU, David was a research biologist, spending most of his time either in the field or at a lab bench. He lived on Midway Atoll during a cacophonous albatross mating season, has chased around a gulls and shorebirds in the Gulf of Mexico, and has processed thousands upon thousands of blood samples from bird populations in the Galapagos. Locally, you’re more likely to find him looking at microbial populations and tree growth in Lowcountry swamps and marshes, and how these habitats are being impacted by sea-level rise. David has the added distinction of gathering credits from five institutions during his undergraduate career, making him an ideal source of information for all of your transferring needs.

In his free time, you can find David at home with his wife, kid #1, kid #2, two cats, two parakeets, a host of fish, the occasional anole, and his dog, Seymour. When not tending his menagerie, David is the advisor to the CCU Horticulture Club (we’re always looking for new members. Look us up on Coastal Connections!) and enjoys making things grow and improving our campus and campus communities Additionally, if you’re of a certain age, you may also find some of David’s musings in AARP magazine. Please stop by and chat with David about courses, advising, or anything you’d like. His door is always open.
