Biography

Amanda Masterpaul is a teaching associate and applied theatre practitioner dedicated to weaving social justice, cultural competency, and critical consciousness into the everyday experience. As a Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner and artist-activist, Amanda believes in the power of multi-identifying people collaborating in partnership and shared purpose to co-create visions and co-solidify solutions for concrete, social change. Throughout her career, she has worked as a teacher committed to radical pedagogy and community organizer alongside various community partnerships and civic engagement projects.

“The Lighthouse Project” - a three year-long collaboration between Coastal Carolina University’s Department of Theatre students and participants with Project Lighthouse, a drop-in center for youth experiencing homelessness. The collaboration culminated in a theatrically devised event engaging audience members in civic dialogue and re-envisioning of the societal structures that perpetuate homelessness in order to transform community through civic engagement.
