Biography

Edurne comes from a family of three generations of writers and literature teachers/professors of Hispanic literature. Since she was in primary school, she knew she would focus her life to following her passion about teaching and researching literature. Originally from the Basque Country, Northern Spain, Edurne completed her BA in Modern Languages (Hispanic Studies track) at Deusto University; following her MA in Foreign Languages and Cultures (Spanish) at Washington State University, and her Ph.D. in Spanish and a Graduate Certificate in Gender Studies at Arizona State University. Her dissertation speaks to the ongoing female migrants’ discourse about multicultural, hybrid identity in contemporary Spain, with a focus on Equatorial Guinean, Chinese, and Moroccan communities. Edurne’s research aims to understand testimonies of inclusion/exclusion from the national discourse, and she analyzes literature, media, journalism, and social media activisim from women authors like Lucia Mbomio, Desiree Bela, Najat el Hachmi, Miriam Hatibi, and Quan Zhou Wu, among others. At CCU, Edurne advises minor in Spanish for Health Professions, and she teaches the curriculum that includes Basic and Intermediate Spanish for Healthcare, Medical Translation/Interpretation, Spanish for Sustainability, Latinx Healing Traditions, and more.
