Biography

Shengsheng Zhou joined the Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies as a lecturer of Chinese in fall, 2022. She completed her Ph.D. in translation studies at the State University of New York at Binghamton in 2021. Zhou came to CCU with a passion to share the Chinese culture with the western world. She currently teaches courses of Chinese language. In her free time, she works on an experimental project which combines translation and creative writing in one cohesive piece, using numerous short stories from a renowned 17th Century Chinese writer Pu Songling’s book Liaozhai Zhiyi (Strange Tales from A Chinese Studio) as raw materials. Zhou is particularly interested in interdisciplinary projects which push boundaries and bring new life to old subjects, modernity to traditional crafts. Her teaching interests include Chinese language and literature, translation, creative writing, and Chinese late premodern art and history.
