With almost 40 years of extensive experience developing luxury oceanfront real estate projects up and down the Grand Strand, the Winchester Development Group is well known for building high-quality work and powerful relationships with some of the best in the business – the architects, builders, land planners and engineers to bankers and interior designers. For Papillon, they’ve partnered with Myrtle Beach-based Sands Building Group, who share the same professional integrity, quality and experience that are the foundations of Winchester’s business practices – and what you can expect to see in every square inch of every home we’re all involved with bringing to life at Papillon.

For Papillon, we all knew our mutual trust, strengths and past working relationships together would unite to build a neighborhood so exceptional and unique to this area; a pedestrian-friendly community that showcases superior homes that are traditional Lowcountry family by design. And we were right.

This community was not only architecturally designed with a careful amount of attention to detail from house to house, but also attention to how each house interacts, mingles and complements one another. How each of your neighbors will live in harmony along the tree-lined streets. Which means, Papillon was designed with you, the homeowner, in mind.

Matt Hughes Skate Park

Matt Hughes Skate Park

The newly-renovated Matt Hughes Skatepark was re-opened on Saturday, July 28 in Myrtle Beach. The park is named after Matthew Hughes, a Myrtle Beach teen who died while skateboarding in 1998.  His sister, Noel Hughes, helped lead the rebuild project. For the first two years of the fundraising efforts, the rebuild group for the project consisted of local skaters, surfers, and business owners. In 2017, , a non-profit organization that formed in 2014 to help communities get the best possible public skateparks built, joined the rebuild group and was able to better organize the fundraising efforts. The City of Myrtle Beach was also a major contributor to the rebuild efforts.

The renovations to the park included replacing Graffiti-covered wood and metal with concrete and the addition of a new gate that prominently features Matt's name and initials. The park also includes a memorial to Matt and a bench made from skate decks. This is only the first phase of the project. The rebuild group hopes to further expand and finalize the skate park in phase 2 with a skateboarding bowl, larger stair sets, and handrails.

City recreational leaders hope the new features in the park will not only attract the local skateboarding community, but also skaters from Wilmington, Charleston, and beyond.
