WINNER: Inlet to Intracoastal Multipurpose Path (I2I)
The Inlet to Intracoastal Multipurpose Path, or I2I, will connect the Intracoastal Waterway to U.S. Highway 17 Business at its crossings with Wachesaw Road and Macklen Avenue. The four-mile multipurpose path will allow bikers, walkers and runners to travel between the coast of Murrells Inlet and the Intracoastal Waterway.
“On behalf of Murrells Inlet 2020 and our Board of Directors, I am very honored and humbled to hear that we received the CCU Real Estate Award for the Inlet to Intracoastal (I2I) Multipurpose Path. The path was and is a labor of love from so many individuals and organizations who value the need for safe recreation and connectivity. It was very much a group effort and shows that a dream can become a reality with a lot of hard work and determination. This path shows exactly what Murrells Inlet 2020 is all about; continuing to make Murrells Inlet a great place to live, work and visit,” said Meredith Millen, executive director of Murrells Inlet 2020.
Phase 1 (of 2) was completed just last month by Murrells Inlet 2020, a nonprofit that advocates for the Murrells Inlet community (as there is no town or city government) in the areas of conservation, community/infrastructure, and commerce. The project was headed by Murrells Inlet 2020 but utilized multiple resources (financially and beyond) and collaborations to achieve completion of phase 1. These resources and collaborations include: Georgetown County, Tidelands Health, HTC, Santee Cooper, The Bunnelle Foundation, The Waccamaw Community Foundation, Coastal Asphalt, CL Benton and Sons, SCDOT, Georgetown County’s County Transportation Committee, and more.
