Benefit Premium Payments

METHOD 1 – Paying Premiums Month-by-Month:

When an employee begins an approved unpaid leave of absence, and does not elect to pay insurance premiums in advance, an initial invoice reflecting the employee contribution rates (i.e. premium payments) for all state-elected benefits will be created and mailed to the employee’s address on record. Subsequent invoices will be sent to the email designated by the employee. Payment is due on the first day of each month and should continue until returning to active employment. (If an initial invoice is not received, please contact CCU Benefits at ccubenefits@coastal.edu or at 843-349-2036 Option 2.)

If payment is not received by the last day of the applicable month (the "grace period"), then elected benefits will be terminated. Termination of benefits will be effective on the first day of the month following the grace period. If coverage is cancelled due to non-payment, neither the employee nor their dependents are eligible for COBRA continuation coverage. The employee is still responsible for any employee contributions missed prior to the coverage termination date.

Eligible employees can re-enroll in state insurance during the next open enrollment period, which occurs every October. Eligible employees who do not wish to continue state health, dental, and/or vision programs can voluntarily terminate their state coverage in order to enroll in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The employee is required to contact the Benefits Department to terminate coverage. Once coverage is terminated, neither the employee nor the employee's dependents are eligible for COBRA continuation coverage.

Payments may be made at Student Accounts - Coastal Carolina University.

For questions, please contact CCU Benefits at ccubenefits@coastal.edu or at 843-349-2036 Option 2.
