High School Math Contest

History

The first High School Math Contest was held in 1979. The Mathematics Advancement Council and the Horry County Higher Education Commission were the first sponsors. Students in Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties were invited to participate. The first contest had over 100 student participants. Over the past few years, the contest has attracted over 200 students from Horry, Georgetown, Williamsburg, Charleston, Richland, Florence, Berkeley, Dorchester, Marion, Sumter, Barnwell and Clarendon counties.

  • The contest is named in honor of Subhash Saxena, distinguished professor emeritus, who taught mathematics at Coastal Carolina University from 1973 until his retirement in 2001.
