Dorothy Anderson CCU Honorary Degree imageDorothy K. Anderson was a Myrtle Beach businesswoman, hotelier and civic leader.

A native of Horry County, Anderson operated a farm supply business before entering the hospitality industry in the 1960s. For more than 40 years, the Anderson family developed a significant presence in the Myrtle Beach tourism industry, including oceanfront hotel properties, condominiums, golf courses and restaurants. Anderson served for 10 years on the board of directors of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. She helped organize the Myrtle Beach Hospitality Association, and she was one of the founders of the Council of Myrtle Beach Organizations (COMBO). In 2005, Anderson was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

Anderson received the honorary degree Doctor of Public Service from Coastal Carolina University during the December 2008 commencement ceremony.
