After receiving her Bachelors of Science in Communications at Syracuse University, Leah was recruited to play for the CCU volleyball team as a graduate student in 2017. While playing for the conference winning CCU team, Leah focused her studies on environmental degradation in low income communities: this work was especially critical at the time- as Horry County was battling historic flooding induced by Hurricane Florence. Post grad, Leah relocated to Seattle for an AmeriCorps term where she served as the Community and Youth Food Education Coordinator at the non-profit, Solid Ground. In this role, Leah organized and taught cooking, nutrition, and budgeting classes for low income and houseless folks throughout the area. Once the term ended, Leah moved overseas to play professional volleyball in Albania until the pandemic hit. She moved back to the states for quarantine and returned to Coastal to assist the Athenaeum Press in capturing and archiving the rich oral histories of the Plantersville Community. This work gradually evolved into a permanent position as the Coordinator for Community Engagement. Leah has a passion for community, environment, food, all things outdoors, and above all- people.
