Political Science

Bachelor of Arts

Political Science is a liberal arts major designed to introduce you to the enduring questions of politics and the institutions and political life of the United States and other regions and countries of the world. The discipline of Political Science is divided into different sub-fields:  political philosophy, American politics, comparative politics, international relations and public administration. As a political science major, you can choose to concentrate in domestic politics or global politics.

Experiences Beyond the Classroom 

While you're enrolled:

  • Participate in a both short-term and long-term study abroad program in a variety of countries.
  • Sharpen your legislative and debate skills in the Model U.N., South Carolina Student Legislature, Mock Trial, and visit the U.S. Supreme Court.
  • Work with the Dyer Institute for Leadership and Public Policy to get hands-on experience with survey and public opinion research and policy analysis research.

Political Science majors are prepared for a variety of careers:

  • Government (public policy, city management, foreign service, intelligence, law enforcement)
  • Law (law firms, private practice, government)
  • Politics (legislative or executive, political parties)
  • Business (management, public relations)
  • Journalism (reporting, editing)
  • Education (public schools, colleges/universities)
