Investigation of Beverages and Food


What is the broad research goal of the team?

We are working to understand the relationship between the chemical composition of food and flavor and how these change with processing. Click here for more information. 

What skills and experiences will team members gain?

  • Review current literature 
  • Learn both laboratory safety and good laboratory practice
  • Learn to maintain a laboratory notebook
  • Help design and direct research questions
  • Production of beverages such as kombucha or beer.
  • Preparing food products for chemical analysis
  • Summarize collected data and draw conclusions
  • Prepare and present research both orally and in writing

Team member expectations:

  • Must meet with the group weekly
  • Must work at least 3 hours a week in the research lab
  • Must maintain an accurate laboratory notebook
  • Operate safely in the laboratory
  • Clean up after yourself 
  • You will be appropriately trained for all activities you are asked to do
  • Can be involved in project design and direction
