For ALL other applicants, the English Language Proficiency requirement may be fulfilled by submitting official reports showing proof of meeting ONE of the following requirements:

Duolingo English Test 

95 (undergraduate) 100 (graduate)

FOR Global Achievement Pathway Program (Currently Not Offered)

70 - 94: Coastal level (one semester of English support and CCU coursework)

50 - 69: Teal level (two semesters of English support and CCU coursework) 

Duolingo Test

The Duolingo English Test is an online English proficiency test that can be taken online, on-demand, in under an hour for only $49. The test is taken via a computer with a camera and includes a proficiency score, video interview, and writing sample which are shared with [Coastal Carolina University-International Admissions: internationaladmissions@coastal.edu ] when you send your results. Certified results are available within 48 hours of the test session. Duolingo Test Results are only valid for two (2) years from the test date per Duolingo guidelines.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

iBT (Internet Based TOEFL): 71 (undergraduate) 79 (graduate)

49 - 70: Coastal level (one semester of English support and CCU coursework)

40 - 48: Teal level (two semesters of English support and CCU coursework) 

pBT (Paper Based TOEFL): 527

TOEFL scores must be received directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS). Coastal Carolina University's ETS institutional code is 5837.

International English Language System (IELTS)

6.0 with no sub-score lower than 5.0 (undergraduate) 6.5 (graduate)

4.5 - 6.0: Coastal level (one semester of English support and CCU coursework)

3.5 - 4.5: Teal level (two semesters of English support and CCU coursework) 

There is no institutional code for the IELTS examination. 

ACT

21 on the English and Reading portion with a minimum composite score of 21

For Transfer applicants:

To meet English Proficiency WITHOUT submitting a test score, you must have 3 credit hours of English Composition with a “C” letter grade or higher;

AND

a minimum overall GPA of 2.50 at your current institution;

AND

a minimum of 24 transferrable credits of course work from a regionally accredited U.S. college/university OR from an accredited higher education institution located in the approved list of English-speaking countries. (see below)
