ALS PAUL ÜBER DAS MEER KAM/
WHEN PAUL CAME OVER THE SEA: A Documentary Film

Tuesday, April 14, 5 p.m.
(CANCELLED)

Jakob Preuss’ award-winning documentary When Paul Came Over the Sea (2017) traces the journey of Paul Nkamani, a migrant from Cameroon. German filmmaker Preuss met Nkamani on the Moroccan coast, where the former was conducting research on Europe’s external borders and the latter was living in a forest, waiting for an opportune moment to cross the Mediterranean Sea. From a harrowing experience crossing to Spain in an inflatable rubber boat to his subsequent detention on a prison island and his journey across Spain and France to his final destination in Germany, Nkamani’s experiences – as well as his friendship with Preuss – comprise the action in the film and inform the current debate on European immigration. Preuss attends the screening and presents a lecture afterward. The film will be shown in German, French, Arabic and Spanish with English subtitles.

Director Jakob Preuss will be in attendance for the screening to discuss his film.
