Service Learning Resources

We have resources for faculty and community partners who are interested in partnering for service-learning opportunities. Please visit Career Services for more service-learning resources.

For Students and Faculty

According to the study How Service Learning Affects Students (Astin, A.; Vogelgesang, L.; Ikeda, E.; and Yee, J., 2000), the researchers' findings suggested that faculty and students developed a sense of civic responsibility and personal effectiveness through participation in service-learning courses. To assist both students and faculty with working with community partners, we have compiled this Service Learning Etiquette sheet to highlight best practices for students, faculty, and staff in working with community partners.

 For Faculty

Looking for a community partner for a service-learning course? Contact Karen Arnie, Director of Internships and Service Learning, in the Career Services Center to inquire if Coastal Carolina University has a Memorandum of Understanding on file for a particular agency. She can be reached at 843-349-2559 or karnie@coastal.edu.

We also have an expectations agreement template available for all faculty and staff who work with service-learners. The Expectations Agreement Template is a written agreement of expectations for service-learning (communication, evaluating service-learners, etc.) for students, faculty, and staff.

For New Service-Learning Partnerships

Interested in forming a service-learning partnership at Coastal Carolina University? Please complete CCU's Memorandum of Understanding and return to Karen Arnie in the Career Services Center.
