Certificate Programs

The Spadoni College of Education and Social Sciences offers opportunities for add-on undergraduate and graduate coursework.

The Certificate in Instructional Technology is a 9 credit 100 percent online or hybrid undergraduate certificate program that provides students with opportunities to develop essential skills that leverage technology to improve learning in educational settings. Students will experience best practices in the design and integration of technology-rich instructional activities and materials that accommodate learner variability in face-to-face, blended, and online settings, as well as how to analyze learner-generated data to improve instruction, how to model responsible digital citizenship, and how to facilitate online collaboration. This non-licensure certificate from the college fulfills some undergraduate Core Curriculum and pre-professional education program requirements.

Literacy Add-On certification may allow licensed educators to apply for add-on certification by the South Carolina Department of Education for Literacy Teacher and Literacy Coach. The coursework provides an in-depth study of literacy foundations and assessment, coaching, teaching methods, curriculum development, and supervision of reading programs.

Licensed teachers and undergraduate teacher candidates in other program areas can earn additional licensure in Specific Learning Disabilities, Emotional Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, or Severe Disabilities. Licensed teachers complete designated graduate special education coursework as a non-degree graduate student. Undergraduate teacher candidates with excellent academic records who have senior status may be eligible to complete a maximum of 12 graduate credits prior to completing an undergraduate degree via CCU’s Transitional Studies opportunity.

The Online Teaching and Training graduate certificate program provides opportunities for educators and trainers to develop advanced competencies in designing, delivering and managing effective instruction for online learning environments. Teaching certification is not required for admission. South Carolina certified teachers who complete the certificate program as directed by their advisers may be eligible to apply for add-on endorsements from the State Department of Education.
