Two Wall College Faculty Members and One Student Receive Student Involvement and Leadership Awards

The annual Student Involvement and Leadership Awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 19, in the Wheelwright Auditorium.

Monica Fine, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Marketing and Hospitality, Resort and Tourism Management, received the Student Organization Adviser of the Year Award. Fine serves as the American Marketing Organization faculty adviser.

“It is so exciting to receive this award for being the Student Organization Adviser of the Year,” said Fine. “I have served as the American Marketing Association faculty adviser for more than five years now. This tremendous group of students takes marketing-related concepts and applies them to small local businesses and nonprofits. I try to teach them digital marketing strategies they wouldn't learn in the classroom, such as Google analytics, building a WordPress website, Facebook advertising methods, etc. We have multiple community service projects, such as gathering more than 70 toys for our annual Toys for Tots drive and multiple bags of canned goods for our food drive. I get to see these student excel and grow as marketers and community members.”

Jacob Voegel, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Management and Decision Sciences, is the first faculty member to reside in on-campus housing. Voegel was recognized for his involvement in the University community and his commitment to students as an adviser, counselor, educator and friend by receiving the CCU Student Engagement Award.

The Rising Leader of the Year award was awarded to sophomore Morgan Howder. Howder, a member of the Wall Fellows Program and a communication major with a minor in new media and digital culture and a minor in marketing. Howder is an orientation team leader, a resident adviser, a Coastal service specialist and an executive board member of Alpha Delta Pi. She plans to get her master’s degree in higher education administration after she graduates from CCU, followed by a Ph.D. in educational leadership. Howder aspires to be a vice president of campus life and student engagement at a university.

Congratulations to Fine, Voegel and Howder. We are proud of all your accomplishments and your commitment to serve our University and students!
