As a Registered Nurse with over 25 years of experience, I felt I had a great understanding of the care and needs of people with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.  Having recently taken the Certified Dementia Practitioner course hosted by Coastal Carolina University, with instructor Erica Ford, it helped to open my eyes to the advances that have happened over the years, with the availability of community and health resources required to care for these members of our community and families.  I so enjoyed the preliminary class; I moved forward with my official certification. I found this seminar very useful for my public health research into the establishment of support practices for Parkinson's caregivers. The information learned also provided me with valuable information and content that I utilize to enrich my teaching. The information learned in this seminar is critical and timely, as there are currently 95,000 people aged 65 and older living with Alzheimer's Disease in the state of South Carolina. The number is predicted to grow by more than 26.3% by 2025 (to over 120,000). The information learned in this seminar will provide increased awareness and improvement in the quality of care for those with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia.
