University Housing at Coastal Carolina University seeks dynamic individuals for the position of Community Coordinator (Student Services Program Coordinator I) reporting to the Assistant Director for Resident Success. This is a full time, live in professional staff position. University Housing is experiencing exciting and rapid growth. With the opening of four new residence halls over the past four years, University Housing is home to more than 4,600 students.

Coastal Carolina University is located in historic Conway, South Carolina, just nine miles from the Atlantic coastal resort of Myrtle Beach, one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the nation. It has an enrollment of 10,000 students and is expected to have continued growth for the next several years. The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and schools to award baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees. Coastal Carolina University offers baccalaureate degrees in 51 major fields of study and 40 undergraduate minors. The University also offers master’s degree programs in business administration, education, and coastal marine and wetland studies, as well as a doctorate in marine science. Coastal Carolina University’s many international partnerships make it possible for students to study in places such as Australia, China, Costa Rica, England, Ecuador, France, Galapagos Islands, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Russia, and Spain.

The Community Coordinator will serve as an entry-level professional that works directly with University Housing’s Resident Success Team to foster a student environment that fulfills the goals and mission of University Housing. Each Community Coordinator will coordinate and administer all aspects of a resident success program in their assigned area housing up to 600 residents. Community Coordinators select, train, supervise, and evaluate up to twelve paraprofessional Resident Advisers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: developing a sense of community amongst residents; managing facilities; overseeing administrative processes; advising a community council; facilitating the room change process; serving as a student conduct hearing officer; and mentoring and nurturing students in their academic and personal development through programming, advising, and counseling. There may be opportunities to participate in and lead committees, teach the FYE course (UNIV 110), and advise student organizations.

A Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration or related field is required. Staff supervisory experience and prior on-campus housing residence hall living experience are also required. A successful candidate will have strong administrative skills and an ability to develop a community, which promotes academic success and a commitment to social justice. Additional preferred experience includes live-in graduate assistantship, student organization advising, response to student behavioral issues including crises, adjudicating student conduct cases, and co-curricular programming based in student development theory.

Employment is for anticipated vacancies with a start date of July 1. Compensation includes a highly competitive salary and benefits package. University Housing provides declining balance meal funds and lodging in the form of a staff apartment as flexible, non-taxable, tools to enable staff to be closer to campus, to ensure positive interaction between staff and residents, and to enable staff to respond to emergencies in a timely manner. University Housing’s Professional Live-In Staff Agreement provides allowances and limitations for roommates and pets.
